The BEST sunscreen for your skin, and your pockets...

The best sunscreens protect against both UVA (Burning) rays and UVA (Wrinkling, Tanning) rays. Even though a sunscreen is labeled as UVA/UVB protection, not all are being completely honest or as effecting in blocking the UVA spectrum. Look for sunscreen that contain as an active ingredient one of the following. UVA Blockers: Zinc Oxide (The best one), Parsol 1789 (also known as Avobenzone), or the newest of UVA blockers, Mexoryl.

Points to remember when you are shopping for your sunscreen...

  • The best sunscreen is the one you use every day.

  • Reapply sunscreen every 90 minutes.

  • If you are concerned that your sunscreen will impair your body’s ability to make Vitamin C, then we recommend that you take a D3 tablet of 1,000 units daily.

  • Remember to apply the sunscreen before you go out into the sun. About 10-15 minutes is best.

  • Sunscreen sprays are a great alternative for the scalp.

My favorites:

Neutrogena SPF 45, 55, 7-, and 85 or now even 100+ Ultra Sheer Dry Touch or SPF 30 and 45 Fresh Cooling Body Mist.

These all soak in invisibly, and feel great on the skin. You can almost always find these are Costco, Target, Walmart, and most Retail, or Drug Stores.

Neutrogena Healthy Defense SPF 30 or 45 – if the above choice stings, this one will not irritate your skin.

Posay Anthelio SPF 15 and 40. This sunscreen containes the new UVA blocker Mexoryl – Usually found at CVS Pharmacies.

Coppertone Sport: new formulations now contain Avobenzone, available in SPF 15-70; versions of both Lotion and Spray.

Best for daily wear and to also use with your make up:

Eucerin Every Day Protection face lotion SPF 30- Great for the everyday application.

Oil of Olay Complete Defense SPF 30- Another great Every Day Sunscreen lotion.

Other very good sunscreens and for people with sensitive skin:

Vanicream SPF 35 or SPF 60. This is generally found at Walgreens Pharmacies.

For the most elegant version of a Zinc Oxide based SPF sunscreen. Try Shiseido brand SPF 55 available at Macy’s or Bloomingdale’s cosmetic counters.
